On June 28–29, 2025, we will be on the air from the museum ships TCG Hızırreis submarine and TCG Gayret warship, located in İzmit, Turkey. Two special callsigns will be used during this event: TC0HZR for the TCG Hızırreis submarine, and TC0GYT for the TCG Gayret warship. We aim to reach operators around the world from these historic vessels using CW, SSB, and digital modes (FT8/FT4). All amateur radio operators who make at least one QSO during the event will receive a commemorative digital certificate, which can be downloaded from our website tadx.org. We look forward to hearing you on the air and sharing this meaningful experience from these iconic ships.
TC0HZR - TCG HIZIRREIS (S-342) Submarine Museum On The Air
USS Gudgeon was built in America in 1953. After World War II, as one of the first submarines with high stance and strike power, it served in the US Navy for 30 years and was delivered to the Turkish Naval Forces on September 30, 1983, after which the Turkish flag was hoisted in California. TCG Hızır Reis, which served for 21 years and ended its active service on February 9, 2004, was structured as a museum ship by the Naval Command and began to be exhibited on the coast of İzmit on October 29, 2004.
TC0GYT - TCG GAYRET (D-352) Navy Ship Museum On The Air
Originally built by the United States on May 10, 1946, near the end of World War II, the ship was commissioned as USS Everson. It later served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, it was purchased by Türkiye on July 11, 1973. On its journey to Türkiye, the ship made port calls in Panama, Puerto Rico, the Azores, and Spain, and was subsequently commissioned into the Turkish Navy under the name TCG Gayret. Between 1975 and 1995, TCG Gayret took part in numerous naval exercises. It was decommissioned on May 5, 1995, and after undergoing maintenance and modifications, it was opened to the public as a museum ship on August 20, 1997, under the name TCG Gayret Museum.
